BBC News 患脑瘤男孩找到治疗办法 20170714
Hi, I'm Ollie. My hobbies are horse-riding, cricket, sewing and Pokemon cards. Hello, I'm Peter. I'm Ollie's dad. Ollie was diagnosed with a brain tumor back in May of 2015. After a full protocol of treatment on the NHS, unfortunately he relapsed. And since then, there has been no treatment available on the NHS. Through research, we found a treatment over in Austria. And through lots more research, we eventually found one person in UK that can provide it. But it's at enormous cost of 440,000 pounds for the two years. And you certainly worth on it. Yeah, you know.
The treatment is quite revolutionary in the fact that the chemo is delivered or part of the chemo is delivered directly into his brain. So Ollie has a special port in his head to facilitate that. That will stay in for the rest of his life. It's definitely been worth all the research and the work. He's doing incredibly well. We were told seven months ago that he would have a maximum of seven months to live. And he's still here. He still sat next to me. And that just goes to show that it's working. The fundraising to pay for this has been incredible. I can't take any credit for it. It's been a team of amazing volunteers, friends, family, the wider community. And communities on other parts of the country that I've never even been to are raising money for Ollie. So now we're at the final push. And then the whole treatment will be covered. And we can just concentrate on getting Ollie treated and not thinking about the financial side of things any more. We have another scan in a few weeks' time in May. If that shows the tumors are still reducing, then we can dare to dream we might actually beat this monster.
